POSITION SUMMARY
Primary Responsibility: Prepares the vessel's daily newsletter, promotional flyers/bios and distributes in paper format and electronically.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
To support Celebrity Cruises' mission of sustaining "the world's best premium cruise line with a taste of luxury," all duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Celebrity Cruises' Pillars of Safety, Service and Style, ISM/ISO and SQM standards, USPH guidelines, and environmental regulations.
Each shipboard employee may be required to perform all functions in various service venues
and throughout the ship.
- In accordance with Celebrity Cruises' Pillars of Safety, Service and Style, as well as through Celebrity Connections, each employee conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees and/or in the presence of guest contact and Celebrity Family Member (CFM) areas.
- Operates computer equipment, software and printer to perform necessary word processing functions in accordance with technical manuals and established procedures. Utilizes spreadsheet software packages for basic mathematical formulas and graphic presentation of information.
- Gathers information from various departments to update and prepare the vessel's daily newsletter in English. Proof reads all materials for grammar appropriateness. Works closely with the Cruise Director to ensure quality and consistency of the newsletter. Works with the International Host to prepare the foreign language version of the vessel's daily newsletter and youth programs. Forwards the final newsletters to the Hotel Director for approval.
- Prepares layouts for printed materials as instructed by Hotel Operations - shore side office.
- Orders and maintains office-related supplies, and arranges for equipment maintenance.
- Makes suggestions to improve processes, schedules or policies to achieve related goals and objectives.
- Attends meetings, training activities, courses and all other work-related activities as required.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial responsibilities for budget, expenses and/or achievement of revenue targets.
- This position is responsible for indirect cost containment through the proper use of computer equipment to produce documents including the vessel's daily newsletter. This will be achieved through conservation of paper and avoidance of costly errors that disrupt the ship's operation.
MOTIVATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
People management responsibilities to ensure optimal performance of the function.
- Monitors and supervises the job performance of the Printer.
- Monitors and manages the various assigned workstation functions. Monitors the assignment of duties and responsibilities to employees. Observes and evaluates employees and work procedures to ensure quality standards and service is met.
- Mentors, develops and provides on-the-job training to his/her staff to strengthen their current performance and preparation for future advancement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum hiring, language and physical requirements to perform the job.
Hiring Requirements:
- Two to three years word processing experience using intermediate features of Adobe Pagemaker vs. 6.5 or above.
- Understanding of layouts and use of design elements including graphics, digital photos, line art, vector images, etc.
- Ability to create and manage digital library of images for later retrieval.
- Excellent ability to multi-task and remain calm
- Self-starter with strong follow up and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines while under pressure.
- Ability to accurately type 40 - 50 words per minute.
- English as a first language with excellent spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.
- Willingness to complete required 12 hours of CD-based training course in Pagemaker prior to arrival onboard ship. Celebrity Cruises will furnish CDs, which must be returned no later than at the end of the initial contract.
- Excellent knowledge of personal computers in a Windows environment with LOTUS e-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel and related printers and equipment.
- Knowledge of standard office procedures and organizational skills. Ability to operate basic office equipment, including telephone, copy machine, fax, adding machine, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of management and employees.
- Superior customer service, interpersonal, teambuilding, conflict resolution and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Completion of high school or basic education equivalency preferred.
Internal Candidate Requirements:
In addition to the stated hiring requirements, internal candidates are required to fulfill the following:
- Completion of two Front Office Staff contracts with a performance rating of satisfactory or above.
Language Requirements:
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
- Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.
- Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French or German preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
